Managing Partner / Senior Engineer
In addition to being the founding principal and managing partner of ASSET Engineering, Mr. Rich is a Senior Engineer with over 30 years of experience in all aspects of power systems design, installation, operation and maintenance, including; transmission systems to 500kV and 34.5kV utility and industrial substations. He has managed projects up to $50MM total installed cost. In his role as managing partner, Mr. Rich is responsible for the complete operation of the firm. He manages the overall structure and operational direction of the company, including the development and maintenance of company strategies and vision. Prior to founding ASSET, Mr. Rich led the substation EPC group for General Electric. He now leads and mentors our team of professional engineers sharing his extensive knowledge and expertise on a broad array of client projects.
Mr. Rich is an active member of the local community and a dedicated civic leader. He works through participation in the local chamber, various committees and religious institutions to help enrich the lives and environment of all those in our shared society.

Mr. Barnette is one of the principals of ASSET Engineering and is responsible for the daily operations of the company. He has been the driving force in assuring the company’s vision permeates all levels of the ASSET team, and that operations are in alignment with the company’s overall strategic plan. Mr. Barnette’s leadership and ability to direct finite resources towards the most productive use has created stability for the company and facilitated opportunities for growth. Barnette marshals his skills and experience to optimize staffing levels, productivity, and ensure that employee skills are appropriate to effectively meet customer needs. In addition to his leadership role Mr. Barnette is a senior electrical engineer with over 25 years of experience in protection and controls systems for electric substations and transmission lines. Prior to joining ASSET Mr. Barnette worked for an electric power association managing improvement projects for transmission and distribution substations and transmission lines. Barnette led these projects from planning and engineering stages to construction start up and commissioning.

THERON CHARLES COLBERT, P.E.

ASSET Engineering is proud to have TC Colbert as ASSET’s Director of Operations at our recently-opened office in Jacksonville, Florida. Commander (O-5) Theron Charles “TC” Colbert was born and raised in Daytona Beach, Florida, and is a retired U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps Officer (Seabee). He honorably served over 27 years of active duty enlisted and executive military service.
During his career as a senior Naval Officer, TC successfully managed and safely executed new construction and facilities renovation and repair projects for the Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in California, South Carolina, Florida, Washington, D.C., Japan, across the Caribbean, a 7-month deployment to Somalia in 1993, and he also served two consecutive tours of duty in the war theater of Iraq from 2006-2007. Theron’s final military tour was completed at The Pentagon as the Reserve Forces Engineer for the Chief of Naval Operations.
Theron is a licensed Professional Engineer in the states of Florida and South Carolina, as well as in Puerto Rico. TC earned his Master of Science Degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering with a minor in Mechanical Engineering, as well as a Master of Engineering Degree in Construction Management with a minor in Real Estate, all from the University of Florida.
After retiring from the military in 2011, Theron founded TRC Energy Engineering, Professional LLC, a VA certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and engineering consulting firm. Most recently, TRC commissioned 14 U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare Administration solar energy, energy conservation measures, and cogeneration (combined heat and power – CHP) projects across the nation. We are excited to have TC on our team and believe that he will do great things at ASSET Engineering.
