Electrical Graduate Engineer

Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities:

ASSET Engineering is currently seeking a Graduate Engineer for our Ridgeland office located in Ridgeland, Mississippi.

As a member of a project team, the Graduate Engineer performs engineering and design duties, which require knowledge and application of basic engineering techniques and procedures.  Assignments are supervised and are designed to further develop employee’s job knowledge and skills.  Graduate Engineers are responsible for preparing technical documents of electrical installations related to power industry projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with project team to create all design documents and drawings for a project including electrical system drawings (single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, interconnects, etc…) and electrical physical drawings (general arrangement and elevations, ground grid plan and details, conduit plan and details, lighting plan and lightning protection plan, etc…) under direct supervision.
  • Work with project team to perform and develop electrical system studies such as load flow, short circuit, arc flash hazard, protective device coordination, harmonics, and ground grid analysis using industry standard software under direct supervision. Applicable software: SKM PowerTools, ETAP, EasyPower, CEGS, and CYME.
  • Work with project engineers to ensure engineering and design efforts meet project schedule requirements.
  • Learn and apply engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI.
  • Participate in ongoing technical training through work assignments and strategically selected 3rd party classes.
  • Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of his/her work
  • Bring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party
  • Participates in quality assurance and quality control programs.
  • Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments
  • Other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering Discipline (Electrical is preferred) from a US accredited college or university.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certificate or ability to obtain EIT certificate withing one year of date of hire with the expectation to work toward professional engineering registration (PE).
  • Knowledge of electrical AC/DC fundamentals.
  • Basic knowledge of three phase power systems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office products including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Understanding of mathematics, including algebra and basic trigonometry
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, vendors, clients, etc…
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment
  • Negative drug test results
  • Background check results satisfactory to ASSET
  • Authorization to work permanently in the US without the need for work sponsorship

Desired Qualifications / Experience:

  • All of the above AND
  • Previous experience in the technical areas and software listed in the Job Description section from Internships/ Co-Ops.
  • Knowledge of and experience in protection and control design, electrical systems studies, and development of relay setting for GE and SEL relays.
  • Knowledge of and experience with electrical power transmission, distribution, and/or generation systems
