ASSET Engineering Awarded Contract for Solar and Battery Storage Demonstration Project in Walnut Grove, Mississippi

ASSET Engineering was selected by Mississippi Power to serve as their Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractor for the State’s First Utility Developed Standalone Photovoltaic and Battery Energy Storage Project

Canton, MS – ASSET Engineering is proud to announce its role as the EPC contractor for the latest renewable energy project in Mississippi. Owned and operated by Mississippi Power, the new facility will be constructed in Leake County and is designed to produce 1.285 MW of clean solar energy. The solar plant will be coupled to a battery energy storage system (BESS) capable of 5.14 MW hours of electricity for Mississippi Power customers. This project marks the first demonstration of a utility developed standalone solar generation and battery energy storage facility in the State of Mississippi.
Solar Panels

ASSET Engineering will be implementing a “Reverse-Direct Current (DC) Coupled PV and Energy Storage” design for Mississippi Power, where the solar power will be connected through DC-to-DC converters on a common bus. This design is the perfect solution for utility connected microgrid applications and allows for both solar and grid charging of the BESS. Using multiple test blocks of different PV panel types, configurations, and ground coverings, this project will provide research into the performance and effectiveness of bifacial modules under a variety of different conditions.

ASSET Engineering is recognized as a specialist in power systems design and analysis for utility companies, independent power producers, and large industrial and institutional power users. They provide clients with quality electrical engineering and construction solutions through a focus on innovations in the industry.
